Laurids Richter was born in East Berlin and grew up in a family of artists. He is a musician, composer and educator based in Berlin. He studied jazz drumset and instrumental pedagogy with Prof. Heinrich Köbberling and Heiko Jung at Hochschule für Musik und Theater »Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy« Leipzig. As a bandleader and sideman, he has collaborated with various national and international artists, and is active in numerous musical projects ranging from jazz to contemporary hip hop. As a visiting researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences in Leipzig, he conducted research on the semantic processing of musical rhythms as part of his PhD studies. In 2020, he represented the professorship for instrumental and vocal pedagogy at Hochschule für Musik und Theater »Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy« Leipzig.
Laurids Richter holds a PhD in music education and teaches drumset at Universität der Künste Berlin. In addition to his artistic work, Laurids Richter is currently part of the interdisciplinary research group Music Evoked Brain Plasticity at the Max Planck Institute for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences in Leipzig, led by Prof. Dr. Thomas Fritz.
